What color will tone down my pink counter top?
My kitchen has a pink Cori-an counter top, oak cabinets and a taupe vinyl floor. We just replaced the relic appliances with new stainless steel ones, but we don't want to do a major remodel right now. I can change the back splash and the paint. Any suggestions? Our style is "2 small boys with lots of toys..."
Taupe seems to be an unusual color for flooring. It is a really dark brown with some grey in it. Can't imagine it on a floor.
You could repaint, tile, or cover the back splash with laminate is a neutral color, like tan or off white. I guess you could also go for the pink Cadillac look, and make the back splash stainless to match the appliances, and complement it with taupe and white paint. Or, you could also do black (or taupe if you can find it) and white tile set diagonally.
There are companies that you can get to "repaint" the counter top to a different color. They aren't using paint, but a special sort of epoxy and can color the counter how ever you want. We had a guy on call to do this to counter tops in our apartments if they were damaged. the counters come out as good as new.
You can also tile over existing counter tops (instructions can be found on line) without much difficulty, other than pulling and resetting the sink. One final option is to relaminate the counter with a new sheet of laminate. I have seen 4x8 sheets of laminate at both Lowe's and Home Depot. It is both easy and inexpensive.
