Our adventure takes us to Southeast Alaska, where brown bears own the terrain.
These magnificent animals roam free around the lush foliage, feasting on
salmon, and generally being awesome, as bears tend to be.
Unfortunately, because of the changing climate (due to climate change, natch),
the salmon migration is thrown out of whack. This becomes a major challenge
for the bears, finding enough food to satiate their bear-like appetites. The
salmon shortage affects not just the bears but the fishing industry as well.
Commercial fishermen are unable to make enough money to offset the sky-high
fuel costs.
**Fortress of the Bears** tells a story of perseverance, by focusing on a bear
family as they attempt to negotiate the "salmon famine" (Better Title Alert),
emerging alive and healthy from the challenging season.
As expected, the folks at PBS Nature deliver a well-executed look into a
corner of the ecosystem that may not get as much play as dolphins or meerkats.
Bears are, of course, badass, and while it's nice to see them doing their
thing in their natural habitat, there's a certain sadness watching them paw
through seaweed and sniff ...
hydrogen peroxide is turning my cats paw orange?!?
my cat has a cut on his little paw and every time i clean it i dunk the paw into some hydro-peroxide. the cut is pretty huge so thats why i dunk it. anways.. i cant just dunk the front end of his paw into the peroxide so his whole foot goes into the peroxide and ive noticed that it turned the bottom of his foot a brownish-orange color! he is a black cat.. with a brown paw. its so adorable , but is it bad..?
The only time to use hydrogen peroxide is to initially clean a wound - it should not be used on an ongoing basis because it will kill tissue.
As to the color, it is not that the hydrogen peroxide is changing the color of blood, as one person said, it is because hydrogen peroxide is a bleach.
Chlorine bleach, which most people are familiar with, releases chlorine when used. Chlorine is a very strong oxidizer and it oxides stains, thus making them seem to disappear.
Oxygen is also an oxidizer (who knew 
but not as strong as chlorine. Hydrogen peroxide's formula is H2O2, water's is H2O - hydrogen peroxide's extra oxygen atom is released very easily and the oxygen works like chlorine bleach, it oxidizes things - like the cat's fur or the cat's pads.
The fact that hydrogen peroxide releases the extra oxygen atom easily is why a bottle of hydrogen peroxide will lose its effectiveness over time. Once the extra atom are gone, all you have is water.
Stop putting hydrogen peroxide on your cat's wound. First, as I said, it kills cells and, second, as others have said there is the danger that the cat will lick it off and ingest it.
Look at the label on the bottle. The bottle I have says, among other things "For External Use Only" and when using it as a mouth rinse it says ". . . and then spit out"
It is also labeled as a debriding agent. Here's the definition of a debriding agent:
"Debridement is the medical removal of a patient's dead, damaged, or infected tissue to improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue. Removal may be surgical, mechanical, chemical, autolytic (self-digestion), and by maggot therapy, where certain species of live maggots selectively eat only necrotic tissue."

Unless the wound is infected and there is dead tissue, you don't what to debride the paw - you will be removing health tissue. If the wound is infected or there is dead tissue, your cat needs the services of a vet as soon as is possible.
If he were my cat, with as large a wound as you describe, I would take him to the vet to have them check it out and perhaps prescribe antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
Again - use hydrogen peroxide only to initially clean a wound, do not use it every day as an on going treatment.
If you continue dipping his paw in hydrogen peroxide it will slow down the healing and he may ingest some of it.
Just keep it clean with water and keep and eye on it. If it does not start to heal in the next day or two, take him to a vet.
